Getting Ready... Adoption Update!

Big news, folks. Many of our friends and family know we've been trying to adopt a little girl for a long time. Well, "long time" is relative. What most of our family and friends don't know is the direction we're officially taking. After meeting with private adoption agencies, we were a little stunned at how expensive infant adoption is. After searching around for other options, we stumbled upon a website of "Children Waiting for Adoption." These are children in the foster care system whose parental rights have been terminated. They're waiting for a family. Somehow, those children captured our hearts. It took a week of praying, and lots and lots of late nights talking, plus input from family, to decide that this really was the right option for us, we weren't just trying to save every child out there. We started taking adoption training classes alongside foster parents in February. After nine weeks of training and a First Aid/CPR course, we're waiting for our homestudy to be scheduled, and then we're nearly ready!

Somewhere out there, right now, is a little girl who needs us. We need her too. Waiting is very much the hardest part of this process.

We've got a bedroom for her, and furniture! A bed, with drawers underneath and shelves in the headboard, a big desk, and a chest of drawers.

It came to us blue, so we're re-painting it! We want to do the tops of everything in bright, happy colors, as soon as we find out what her favorite colors are. And put fun new handles on all the drawers. Because it was a library day, Stephen was too busy reading. But Joe was thrilled to help!

I just HAD to get the tongue action in there... He takes after his Uncle Zack!
Joe took his job very seriously. He didn't even get upset when he got paint on himself! That's quite a big deal for a kid as finicky as he is!
I helped too, really I did! But they were putting on primer first, and my perfectionist-ness couldn't handle all the streakiness. *shudder* I'll help put the second coat on. And make it perfect.
Joe can't wait for his sister to see her room!
