Because the only thing Stephen has to worry about this summer is his thesis, we get to have lots of fun while he is waiting for edits and feedback! For our first adventure, we wanted to drive down to Little Sahara, a sand dune recreation area south of Provo. It was a gorgeous day, high 80's, we hop out of the car and start up those big, deep, sandy dunes... only to run right back down, yipping and squealing and hopping as the sand burned our feet!! Yeah, sand gets hot. Duh. SO! Stephen made use of his many, many field trips and we detoured to go to Topaz Mountain, where we hear you can find topaz crystals! What fun, right?! After driving about 45 minutes in to the most desolate, dry, ugly, barren wasteland, and we started joking about dying out here and no one would find us...we arrived! Boy. It was ugly. And hot. But we MUST adventure! So I found a shady spot under a tree and Stephen and the boys clambered around for about half an hour, maybe 45 minutes. Joe and Bracken mostly hung out with me in the shade. By the end, we were ALL in the shade, watching Stephen dig for those dang crystals... no such luck. Oh well! It was fun! And we had ONE MORE trick up our sleeve. Incidentally, when we stopped for gas on the way out, we met a few girls with HANDFULS of crystals!! Apparently, you have to go up to the top. There should have been a sign. There is no way we're going back. We wrapped up the day pretty well, stopped at the Red Barn south of Santaquin, had ice cold apple juice and homemade ice cream. Though almost everything went wrong, it was a great day.

Topaz Mountain. Ew.
Off we go!! Into... that...
